Evaluation of objectives for 22/23

1. Expansion of our hybrid vehicle fleet

We will make more than 30% of the DENIOS car fleet hybrid vehicles.

☐ Target partially achieved

In March 2021, a new DENIOS Vehicle Directive expressly promoting the procurement of electric vehicles was published in Germany. At the end of the reporting period, the vehicle fleet comprised 10 hybrid vehicles out of a total of 59, which represents a share of around 17%. It was therefore not possible to achieve the target of 30%. The reason: Many of our employees travel long distances in their vehicles, which means that electric cars are often impractical due to their relatively short range (compared to a cars with a combustion engine). Moreover, the infrastructure throughout Germany is not yet sufficiently developed to ensure that there are enough charging stations at all locations – this makes it difficult to use electric vehicles on our long journeys.
This target also remains in place for the new reporting period (2024/2025).

2. Travel Directive

DENIOS is drawing up a Travel Directive that clearly defines whether the trip may be made by car, train or plane.

Target achieved

We have programmed a travel cost optimiser that determines how our employees can get from point A to point B in the most environmentally friendly and sustainable way possible. Anyone planning a business trip to our Group Companies – or travelling from a Group Company to Bad Oeynhausen – can use our intranet tool to plan their trip. Simply enter the destination, and the results will show which route is the best in terms of environmental protection: by car, by train or by plane.

3. Roll-out of the Vehicle Directive

The Vehicle Directive that has already been adopted in Germany will be rolled out at our European subsidiaries; this will define the permitted energy efficiency class for vehicles.

Target not achieved

In March 2021, a new DENIOS Vehicle Directive expressly promoting the procurement of electric vehicles was published in Germany. The Directive also states that any vehicles with traditional combustion engines bought for the Group must be in Energy Efficiency Class A as a bare minimum. It was not possible to carry out the roll-out at our European subsidiaries, as the dynamic of the car market varies radically from one country to the next in some cases, and the vehicle types used are too heterogeneous. For this reason, this goal will no longer be pursued in the new reporting period (2024/2025).

4. Environmental Heroes

Our Environmental Heroes are already very active at the local level and are planning to expand their radius for seminars and training sessions within Ostwestfalen-Lippe and increase the presence of sustainability as an issue.

Target achieved

Our team of trainees and dual students (DENIOS environmental heroes) have further expanded their radius and the frequency of seminars and training courses. For example, an educational partnership was set up with the local handball team GWD Minden – in this co-operation, youth players were invited to DENIOS to get to know the company better with respect to sustainability and environmental protection.

5. Sustainability at DENIOS

DENIOS is aiming to provide more support for the individual environmentally friendly activities of its staff in future. Examples of this include plans to set up a bike challenge to encourage employees to stop commuting by car, and to set up car pools. This will encourage everyone at DENIOS to work together to reduce our footprint.

Target achieved

Several environmentally friendly activities were implemented during the reporting period to sensitise employees to the issue. In 2023, for example, the 'DENIOS Bike Challenge' was organised for the first time – in this in-house campaign, employees were encouraged to cycle to work as often as possible. This challenge was well received, and more than 30 employees actively took part.

In addition, the 'DENIOS car pool' was launched: An online tool that allows colleagues to arrange car pools via a virtual map.

6. Product recycling

We will increase the proportion of recycled room systems on offer to 25%.

Target partially achieved

In the reporting period, a total of 70 room systems were taken back for recycling: 40 room systems in 2022 and 30 room systems in 2023.

Based on the data available, we can say that we have significantly increased the supply volume from 2021 to 2022, whereas there was no growth from 2022 to 2023. Around 150 quotations are prepared each year, with an order rate of 20-25%. This means that we were not quite able to achieve our target share of 25%. However, since DENIOS did not offer the 'Room System Recycling' service at all in the past, we believe that this goal has been achieved at least partially.

As the return of room systems will be one of our standard services in future, this goal will no longer be explicitly listed in the new reporting period.

7. Product innovation

Our customers can feel even more secure in future. The electronic nose will detect hazardous gas and smoke leaks and trigger an alarm to prevent dangerous consequences.

Target partially achieved

The electronic nose product is still under development and was not yet finalised in the reporting period – however, product tests have already been conducted. It bears pointing out that DENIOS has been working with similar gas detectors for a long time and incorporates them into its product solutions, thereby guaranteeing customers corresponding safety during a gas or smoke alarm. Development in this area is moving forwards – without this product innovation being explicitly listed as a goal in the new reporting period.

8. Customer satisfaction

The digital customer portal allows our customers to view all their data via web access. This will provide the customer with an overview of everything, from orders to their individual DENIOS Connect app, all in one tool.

Target achieved

The digital customer portal was implemented in the 2022/2023 reporting period, meaning that customers now have a convenient online tool at their disposal.

9st Sustainability Week

Due to COVID-19, we had to postpone DENIOS Sustainability Week. Our Environmental Heroes will now plan and hold this event in 2022 instead.

Target achieved

Sustainability Week was held for the first time in October 2022. For a whole week, there were multiple activities centred around the topic of sustainability. For example, employees were offered a healthy breakfast with regional products. A rubbish collection day was also organised. and more than 200 new oak and beech trees were planted in the local Wiehengebirge mountains as part of a tree planting campaign. There was also a new version of Sustainability Week in autumn 2023 – this time the campaign was expanded, with the international Group companies also taking part.

10. Employer branding

We will give DENIOS a new face as an employer, building a campaign with the motto 'You empower tomorrow' to strengthen DENIOS's position as an employer brand in the local area and increase its visibility.

Target achieved

The 'You empower tomorrow' campaign was successfully launched in the reporting period. In autumn 2022, DENIOS held an 'Empowerment Day' – an internal company information day to present itself to its own employees, highlighting the advantages and benefits of DENIOS in numerous presentations. The company also demonstrated its strong employer brand in autumn 2023, when it organised its own football tournament ('DENIOS Cup') for the first time. In addition, the company was also present at job fairs and other events (e.g., at the Porta Westfalica airfield festival), produced its own 'DENIOS honey' with a local beekeeper and showcased itself in the regional press with a large number of 'You empower tomorrow' adverts.

Furthermore, the campaign is to be expanded even further in future: The development of an acoustic sound logo and the placement of radio adverts to promote DENIOS as an employer are currently being planned.
